MANY PEOPLE TRIED TO DISPLACE TONS OF WATER,
BUT DOING SO ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE 3RD
MILLENNIUM SEEMS TO ME ANTI-HISTORICAL.
Practicing windsurf I asked myself if it was possible steering a boat exploiting
the same dynamics of gliding boards, that is to say exploiting the "lift" effect
of the mast upwind, moving it aft upwind, and downwind at the fore. In short,
it should have a tridimensional freedom degree. It should have such a length on
the waterline and max. beam ratio to enable him to exploit the shape buoyancy
rather than the displacement.
Probably this is not the best when sailing upwind, so that a skeg would be necessary
at the bow.
Sailing rather fast the rigging will have to be very simple: a spi would be impossible,
instead a gennaker would be more appropriate, such a gennaker inflicted on a flexible
bowsprit so that it would be effective also in stern speed. To be continued.....
